Data & API
The whole archive is available for research: as files to download, and as an MCP endpoint that Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants can search and read with citations.
Downloads
| File | What it holds |
|---|---|
| declassifieduap-records.json | One entry per record with its catalog details and the address of its page here and of the original file. |
| declassifieduap-records.csv | The same catalog as a spreadsheet. |
| declassifieduap-fulltext.jsonl.gz | The full text of every record, one record per line (JSON Lines, gzip-compressed). |
The records are U.S. government works and in the public domain in the United States. Some government files include material that was sent in by others, such as letters or photographs; including it in a government file does not change its rights.
For Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants
The archive runs an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server at:
https://mcp.declassifieduap.org/mcp
Add that address as a custom connector or remote MCP server in Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or any MCP client. No account or key is needed. Your assistant can then search the records and read their pages, and answer with links to the record and page it used.
The server offers six tools. All of them only read; none changes anything.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
search_records | Full-text search, filtered by agency, release, incident years, topic or media type. Each hit carries the matching page. |
get_record | One record by its code or address: catalog details, war.gov's description, the labelled machine summary and linked records. |
get_document_text | The text of a document, a few pages at a time, or an audio transcript. |
search_document_text | The pages inside one record that contain given words or a phrase. |
list_releases | Every release with its date and record counts. |
list_topics | The topic vocabulary, or the records filed under one topic. |
A plain-text guide to the site for language models is at /llms.txt.
How to cite a record
Cite the record and the agency that created it first, then this archive as where you read it. Every record has a permanent address, and ?page= links to a page of a document.
Federal Bureau of Investigation. "FD-302, Unidentified Aerial Object Observation Report" (FBI-UAP-D043). PURSUE Release 07, U.S. Department of War, 2026. Declassified UAP, https://declassifieduap.org/r/fbi-uap-d043-fd-302-unidentified-aerial-object-observation-report-2026?page=3. Accessed October 24, 2026.
Where you can, also link the original file on war.gov. Each record page links to it under Source.
Automated access
Search engines and AI crawlers named in robots.txt may crawl the record pages, which carry the full text. For bulk work, use the downloads or the MCP endpoint. The mirrored PDFs, videos and images are not available to automated clients, and page requests are rate-limited.
